before I get burnt alive ... yes I’ve been very stupid !

My 11 year old Pc died at work yesterday, I had an idea it was going so backed up my jobs to a external drive , the problem I have is email .

We used a old version of outlook , it seems the new pc I got today doesn’t have Microsoft office on it ( only used office for invoices and email )

I can’t remeber my outlook password.

If I get in touch with my hosting company will they be able to access my emails and give me what I need to open them and keep receiving them in Gmail ?

Thanks for taking the time to read work problems on a Friday night .

What password is it you're after? The one for the email account, one to open up Outlook etc? Do you know what version of Outlook it was? If it's the password for the email account you can probably use something like MailPV (free) to recover it. Plug in your old hard drive into your new PC and find your pst file and open it with this tool.

When you finally get access to your email do yourself a favour and move away from hosting provider email services and pay someone to migrate your email over to Exchange online. It costs £3/user/month but it's all ran by Microsoft. You get a really good webmail client which looks exactly like Outlook 2016, you can easily set it up on your phone etc too. Nothing else compares to it for the price.

(Red face time ) I have lost the password for outlook ( it’s either 2002 or 2007 version ) and my login to the hosting company ! I’ve left a message with the hosting company to explain this .

Am I right in thinking the hosting company can just send me new passwords to open my emails in gmail ? ... your not in south Derbyshire by any chance are you ?

Ah. If you either have a backup (with the pst on) or you can plug in the drive to your new PC I would try that tool. It should be able to recover your host password. You can then use Pst Password (free) to hopefully recover the pst password too.

As long as you can prove who you are I don't see why the hosting company won't be able to reset it in the worse case though so you can get access to it again. You can make Gmail connect to an external email host but you will need the password first to set it up.

I'm near Belper, which is south mid-Derbyshire :p. Where abouts are you?

Ah, a bit of a trek then :(

I don't see why they wouldn't but those tools should sort you out. Generally the older the version of Outlook you had the better as the newer ones will be more secure.

You say it won't boot up? As in the drive is completely dead or it just won't boot to windows. If it's because the system won't boot to windows you can easy get the data back by sticking it in a usb caddy. It will be there. (Unless the drive is dead completely).
