I have recently had my hotmail account compromised and it's caused me the world of pain. As they have control of it they have managed to reset other online account passwords by clicking on "forgot my password" links on their websites.

As soon as I noticed (10 hours after the event) I raised the issue with Microsoft and provided all the details to get my account back. Its now been 48 hours now without a single response from them, meanwhile they have full access to my primary email account. I've had to log onto every account I can think of and change the password and registered email address, cancel bank cards etc.

I want to move to a provider that will respond a lot quicker if this should ever happen again. Somewhere with online chat support, or phone number even. I don’t mind paying for this service.

Who do you use? Have they a responsive support service? Any recommendations? I dont want to use my ISP email as I will change ISP in the coming year.

Thanks,

I would recommend using a private email hoster. So get your own domain and webhosting/email. Sadly that costs but if that would to happen again youd have more support.

Microsoft probably gets inundated with these requests.

+1. If this has caused you so much pain then I would get your own domain/email hosting and go from there. TBH for my own email (main account) I have always had a domain registered. Less problems, never been hacked yet, and even the spam protection seems better. Hotmail, however, in my limited knowledge is the worst offender for being hacked, so stay clear!
