Hi Everyone,

I'm looking at a self-service password reset product which has the ability to send SMS texts. Well, it can use an SMS gateway at least. I've found an SMS gateway re seller who charges 2p per message.

Now I'm thinking that there must be a device on the market which does the same thing using your own SIM card? If so, we can buy a SIM only plan with unlimited txts.

any ideas?

Thanks

Is it worth it? 2p per password reset handled by a third party, vs. purchasing and looking after a gateway yourself. How many password resets do you expect to need to do via SMS?

I think most USB 3g modem will do this.
You just need to send the appropriate commands.

I've done it before with a program called Gnokii, a serial cable and a Nokia strapped to a cable management arm. We're talking 1999/2000 though. My boss at the time wrote a wrapper to queue incoming messages and feed them one-by-one to the phone via Gnokii. We used it for sending alerts from the server monitoring software and it worked a treat (beep beep beep at 4AM - grrrrrr).
