¯\_(ツ)_/¯
just a quicky, is there a distro that allows me to set up linux as a pop3 server, with virus scanning and spam filtering?

A live CD would be nice, but anything robust would be good. :)

Oddly enough i've been considering running a dedicated distro with spam/av/routing (normally not my idea of a good combination but it's not my call). From reading up a few years back Clark Connect springs to mind as does SME Server. I can't tell you what they are like now but finding out is half the fun!

Nothing that does all that automatically that I'm aware of, however Ubuntu + Exim + Spamassasin + Clamav should be fairly easy to install.

Some instructions here:

http://koivi.com/exim4-config/

worth noting this comment as those instructions are for Debian (on which Ubuntu is based):
UPDATE 9/13/2006: I have successfully installed this on an Ubuntu Dapper machine as well. The only thing that I needed to do was to enable the universe repository in /etc/apt/sources.list

Thanks.... I've got a spare p3 machine that's gathering dust. May aswell have a go at this. :) I guess setting it up can be half the fun (i hope)

The sysadmins at work were knocking up new servers and putting them into cluster within 20 minutes of us telling them we'd got the distro installed and the servers live.. so I imagine it can't be too hard, though admittedly they are rather experienced at this level of stuff.

You may want to have a look at Clark Connect, it uses a pre configured hardened distro then adds Spamassasin, Dspam, ClamAV, Privox and Dansguardian and ties it up in a heavily intergrated package.
