I'm wanting to retrieve my nildram mails using TB.

I've used the imap method and have the following settings in place:

I'v opened all the relevent ports and it won't connect, what am I doing wrong?

Do you perhaps need to use SSL or another email port? Does the ISP provide any instructions on setting up email. Do you even have an IMAP account/does the ISP have IMAP support?

Ah Nildram. Right. It seems you need a specific account type to have IMAP. The million dollar question now is, do you have that account type?

Well according to the Nildram support pages

http://www.nildram.net/support/section/imap/1/

their "IMAP" server is "pop3.gotadsl.co.uk"- rather unintuitive but worth a shot I'd say
Thanks for that, but that didn't work either

And under my account mail and on their other support page, over *Here* it says on #5:

Set the mail server type to IMAP and enter the incoming server address as imap.gotadsl.co.uk and the outgoing address as smtp.gotadsl.co.uk

There's no option to select specific accounts as such, so based upon assumption they must support IMAP.

But that link posted earlier by MOKUJ1N says that IMAP is only available with DSLMail. Check the first line of text here.

Look at the image above ^^ ;)
Oh dear. My bad.:o Hmm interesting then. Have you tried the POP3 server just to see if that works then?

Do they have a status page where you can see if anything is down/not working correctly? I.e. I just received an email from my email provider telling me that they will be working on email later today and no emails will arrive in my inbox whilst they are working and that any emails that are sent to me will be queued and sent after the maintenance?

It could be that something is up or down with IMAP today? Perhaps google for Nildram and IMAP and see if this is a common occurence for Nildram customers and if anyone else has a fix for this. It seems that you might need someone who has been through this already.

Pop3 isn't working either

Their status page shows no workings in the progress and google didn't help much.

Bumpty bump :(
Firewall then? Turn it off and try then. If it works something is obviously up (or down, depending on how you see it) there. Fiddle with the firewall in that case and if it still doesn't work when you turn the firewall off then I'm stumped.

I just hope you don't reply telling me you don't have a firewall or something.

This is perhaps a fairly obvious question but are you sure you're using the correct username/ password combination? Have you tried changin/resetting your password just in case. The reason I ask is that I can connect successfully to the pop3 server via telnet to port 110:

Code:
[mark@whiskas ~]$ telnet pop3.gotadsl.co.uk 110
Trying 85.119.248.14...
Connected to pop3.gotadsl.co.uk (85.119.248.14).
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK <[email protected]>
quit
+OK
Connection closed by foreign host.
[mark@whiskas ~]$
Obviously as Im not a Nildram user I can't progress any further :) However it does show that their POP3 server is alive and responsive and asking for authentication responses.
