Email timing out

I can't connect to the IMAP server for my web hosting at all which uses Thunderbird, I contacted my web host thinking it was them but now I have realised another computer in the house can't connect to it's POP server either and that's a Pipex supplied Email POP server using Outlook. So two computers using different software and different servers and neither can connect.

We use Pipex to supply our internet access, could it be them? I have looked in the router but nothing is blocked and I'm the only one that has access so nobody has fiddled. Ideas? :/
 
could be pipex, what i do is just turn off my router of 10 mins and which should put me on another gateway at my isp, which normally solves any service/port connection issues.
otherwise just double-check your settings in thunderbird and outlook for both.
if you have a personal firewall like mcafee, try turning it off for 5 mins and send and receiveing, your router probably has an in built firewall so theres not much risk in doing this.
if still no joy, try calling pipex or if they have an online support on their website try giving that a shot.
