yes. I am ashamed and feel like a complete idiot.

I was just opening the front door yesterday on the way to work when I noticed my car keys were not in my car pocket.

30 minutes later I still could not find them and so I ended up getting a lift too and from work.

Last night I tore my house apart and still no luck. Literally everywhere, even plaes I knew they couldn't be. I just don't get it, I work 12 hour shifts so only had 3 hours awake to actually lose them.

My house is attached to the road by a long windy path through a very dark forest. So with the lack of sunlight after and before 8 I have been unable to look properly but this morning with the clocks changing I had a decent look but still no joy, so many leaves out there that it could be anywhere.

And it gets worse, I can't find the spare. I have a suspicion that it is in the boot of my car as I have recently moved house and there a few bits and bobs in a box.

So today got another lit to work. I suspect Monday I will be doing the same if I pay my housemate enough to wake up at 7:30. Otherwsie I might have to use PUBLIC TRANSPORT.

Luckily on Tuesday I am off so I am going to get it sorted no matter what, I feel really really weird without my car. Like I am a child or disabled or something. I can't even get any food because I have no money 'cos I can't go to the cash machine or shops. Agghh.

Worst case scenario. I don't find the spare key and the spare key isn;t in the boot or at my mum and dads which is the other possiblity.

how much is this folly going to set me back.

They will probably have to tow it to the garage, break in and make me some new keys. :(

So yes I am a fool, mock me all you like, I am used to it now after 2 days of this.

But how much is this going to be if I phone up Vauxhall and say "fix it all"?

Vauxhall Astra btw.

if a member of rac/aa phone them up and get them open it to check for keys in the boot 1st I guess.

will do, but first I will have a walk:( to my parents to see if it is there

If not I am just wondering how much it would cost really in a worst case scenario, think I have enough money but if not it might be time to get a credit card or atleast an overdraft. I am normally fine with money but a few expensive things have occured this month and this is going to be in the hundreds right?

Well, with experience of ordering keys for BMW, Porsche, Citroen, and Mercedes you just need the V5 (and photo ID matching the V5) and the dealer will sell you a new key. Takes a few days to come as it is ordered specially (obviously) from elsewhere.

To give you an idea, Citroen charge around £50. So not the end of the world. I'd hope vauxhall would be in the same ballpark.

Would that include the immobilisor chip though? Else he wont be able to start it

Yes, full remote control programmed key. Merc charge around £120 due to it being a fancy chrome key with all of the other features merc keys have.

That was Citroen, though. Merc etc charge a lot more (down to their fancy key's though in comparison i guess). The citroen key i had to order was for a van and was fairly basic (although did have immobilisor).

Peugeot charged me £60 for a new key when my brother dropped mine in a lake. :(

It was an IR remote key which are expensive, I was told if I'd had the radio RCL system it'd have been around £30...stupid 306.

Does anyone know if Ford do that (keys to order)?

My car only came with one key and I've been meaning to get a spare for ages - the local Mr Minit place said they couldnt copy the immob chip because it's encrypted and ford said they'd have to have the car in to have the keys programmed to the ECU

A Seat Main dealer quoted me £155 for a replacement of mine. It has an immobilizer and remote locking, but how can a Merc key be cheaper than a key for a 2001 Seat Ibiza :(

That was for an S-class mercedes chrome keyfob with driver profile, service history storage etc too :p Thats criminal of VAG to charge that much!

VAG charge a packet for replacement keys. My Mum got her R reg Golf with just a single key and when enquiring about getting another, she was told it would be well over £100 despite having the master!

Car's probably only worth just over ten times that. Ridiculous.

While that is a rip off (With PSA charging around £50 for theirs, and Porsche/Merc etc being the same ballpark as what that golf was quoted at) to be fair the cars actual value is of complete irrelavence. :)

A few years ago I lost my car keys at a music festival. I had to sleep in a field until the AA could get into the carpark when it was empty the next day. They recovered me home, nearly 200 miles, and then I got a local auto locksmit to come out. He took the lock out of the passenger door, cut 3 keys to suit and then coded them via the ECU. It cost either £90 or £100 I seem to remember.
