Embed a PayPal button into an XHTML site?

What is the most straightforward way to achieve this? Are there any options to do so which means once clicked you remain on the website and aren't redirected away to PayPal?

I thought it was a case of logging into PayPal, where you can create the button and it gives you the html for the site.
