Previous thread Older Ipod Nano gave up the ghost after about four uses, (only used on Holidays) New Ipod bought.

Update and this is why I ****ing hate apple pish. Not hardware but I-tunes with a passion. Its over complicated for no reason.

Old I-pod Nano obviously works with XP new one win7 and above! You could not right this stuff. So new i-pod will not work with my i-tunes as updated as it can be on my XP! In fairness My sister said to the sales guy she wanted the same so I’ll will go through the roof if they don’t take it back.

So here goes!

Scenario
What I have in front of me!
Win XP PC with Backup of my Sisters Music in one folder.
Brand new Ipod refusing to use itunes on my XP machine
Brand new unopened Ipad air 2

Can the I-pad air2 get the Music of my old PC?
Does the new Ipad run Itunes ?
Can the new Nano connect to the the Ipad?

Just trying to get 7GB music on a 16GB Nano and as usual Itunes making life a misery. I hate it with a passion I really do!

Just read on another forum the Ipad cant connect to Ipod Nano to transfer music. My first thought is WTF! Seemingly the Ipad 2 is not intended to be a computer replacement.

So Apple are getting a opened not used Charged ipod Nano and a Boxed unopened Air 2 ipad back tomorrow. Let down by software – Well done Apple changing the world I don’t think so over complicating it certainly.

You can't run Itunes on the Ipad no, but you can connect it to your Itunes and sync whatever songs you like.

Apple have never allowed Data transfer through bluetooth, it is there only for connection to wireless bluetooth adapters.

Plug your Ipad or Nano into your computer and sync your music, it's really simple.

It’s not that simple! My Computer runs XP that has itunes version XXXX that both the Ipod and Ipad refuse to use. I have 6Gb off music in a folder on my PC that is my sisters Music. When she first got her ipod the one that has stopped working I spent a few days ripping her bought Cd’s to put on it.

So New Ipad Air 2 useless
New ipod 16 GB Nano useless
Old ipod Nano only working plugged into power.

Update your iTunes then to the latest version? You can also add all your music from different folders to iTunes so you can sync it. :)

I understand you're frustrated but realistically, I'm not too surprised that the new iPod and iPad won't sync with XP. XP went out of mainstream support some years ago and you can't expect hardware manufacturers to continue to support it indefinitely.

Do you have a PC with a newer OS on that you can copy the library over to? Providing you copy the entire library and open that library within iTunes, the devices should sync to it.

Windows XP is a 14 year old OS now, it's no real surprise the latest iTunes won't install on it, as even Microsoft no longer provide support for it.

Just an update went on Apple community help.. There is a new September Win 32 bit Xp version that itunes will not automatically download but you are able to download manual. Took me a wee while to figure out how to move music over from a folder but got there and ipod is on its way to Dubai with all its music.

At least the new Ipad also bought this week Air2 64GB will now work with this version on my old XP. As I really wanted to copy over Gb of pictures too.
If anyone buys a new ipod or Ipad and still on XP here is the latest I-tunes 12.1.3 Dated Sep 16 2015.

Been meaning to get a new OC rig for the past few years but nothing game wise till Elite tickled my fancy and Dayz looks another year away. But happy a solution was found to get the new hardware up and running.

Question this ipod 16Gb that is my sisters when it comes back am I right in thinking if I drain the battery fully it should store fine without use ready for next holiday? Old Ipod nano was left with a new full charge and think that’s what killed it. Shame as it works flawless when plugged in and look brand new only being used five times.

Spend a couple of quid on Windows 7 and you won't run into these issues. Unless you have some strange attachment to XP.

Don’t have a strange attachment but my PC does as it’s a 2004 November build. :D Trust me looking forward seeing what Win10 is like as I’ve been stuck in the dark ages.

New Win 10 rig next year!

Then why not just use that to find out if it can run windows 7 (my money will be on that it will since windows 7 can run (albeit rather slowly) on old hardware).

It’s an old 2004 machine in daily use for hours. It works fine for what I want and that is just a stable base to browse, shop and play music. I will wait till new high end rig later early next year and buy a copy of Win10. It should be a massive step forward.

I think I'd rather run WinXP well than Win 07 at a crawl and pay for the Privilege lol.

Kia I might take a look at that CopyT when I open the new Ipad Air 2 up today or later this week. I just want to click copy and drag and bypass i-tunes with my Music and pictures if I can.

I’m surprised the devices or apple allow such use of a third party. They usually only want things done one way there way when it comes to apple I’ve always found. Which in part is why I detest I-tunes. The number of times I’ve wanted to do X and its done Y,Z and then after a fight X.

For example I’m sure Apple has some wired and wonderful life changing - you cant live with out it “Photo collections” when all I want is to Copy all your edited pictures from years of travel to show people on my new ipad from one folder on the Pc to a folder on the ipad. It will want to organize, change the format, send a copy to i-tunes backup to kill my old PC and share to some cloud service most probably. Windows MS guy so set in my ways. :)

Get a Mac - import images into photos app - it shows on the iPad :p

Maybe they will take an Ipod Nano the one that wont charge after about five uses in trade in  (Although our fault for not using it over the few years but for holidays). The New Nano is off to the Sun but the I-pad Air2 I’m still deciding on. Don’t think I’ve ever brought home tech like it and not bothered opening it before. Still sitting in its John Lewis bag just behind this very keyboard. Personally I’d rather put the money for it towards a new PC rig to play some games again. That will come in the next few months anyway as Elite is back.

You still got the old iPod? you could have used that to get 10% off a new one afaik. Ah well :x

Win7 is of 2009 vintage, assuming what you have has a trim compliant chipset then an SSD and win7 will transform it at minimal cost. You can even move it over to a new build at a later date and get a free win10 upgrade assuming it's retail.
