Heard about EMI lately, and this prompted me to question how safe my setup is...I'm a wee bit confused. Here it is....

The side panel has a large metal grille on it which allows air through as you can see - does this place my speakers or monitor in danger from the EMI, or is the metal grille enough to shield them? Are the speakers and monitor already shielded?

Also, are there any disadvantages of not having an IO shield? The motherboard didn't come with one as it was a b-grade bargain.

Metal mesh in microwave's door is designed for blocking 2.4GHz radiation and blocking effectiveness depends on wavelength. Higher frequency/shorter wavelength signal passes through smaller holes so considering lower frequency of signals inside PC metal meshes used in side panels work well.
(also most currents/signals in PC have very low power)

Looks like you might keep cell phone on desk so you've probably noticed that peculiar noise from speakers when call or SMS is coming... that's example of EMI. (so that's why it's good to have metal PC case)
