**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

Ship combat is pretty boring.

Land warfare is better.

Can't put my finger on it but it seems to be a bit of an anticlimax for me.

Think i was expecting too much.

I certainly enjoyed the land combat more than the ship combat (though I have always preferred land combat over ship combat in games), but I guess there is only so much that can be done with naval combat of that era without breaking the history too much.

And occasional rampaging sea monster wouldn't be going too far I think.. :(

dloading the demo off steam now, a nice wee 8/900kbs compared to the 10kbs 2 days ago

My younger brother doesnt rate these games that much but I thought id give the demo a try despite not liking turn based games, i ll see if the RTS factor sways me

So I have to download Steam and make an account to play the Demo? That sucks. More crappy software I don't need.

From where I'm sitting steam is essential :P

Finally got to play the demo, it was just taking ages to get past the the inital blurb screen. It took about 4 min to load any of the scenarios :(

I am impressed with how well it runs on my PC, which I bought for MTW 2.

Why would you not have steam installed? Its great and the deals that they have been doing lately are fantastic. I really look forward to their weekend deals now.

Hopefully it wont be long before this game is one of them :)

So you've never played any of the half life games, portal, tf2, counter strike and others? You've missed out... Steam is the way froward for games imo, no crappy cd checks, achievements, and account integration into all steam games. Can install it on as many pc's as I want too as long as I'm connected to the net. Downloading > cd/dvd trash. A real bookie and dvd box is nice but the dvd itself is trash imo. All games should come with a pretty box, a massive book and a steam cd code imo.

I'm having real trouble even getting the demo to download... I search for the game, then click "Yes I have steam" and then nothing happens. Sigh.

I've played all of the games you have mentioned. But I've never owned them because they were all popular before I got my "new" PC nearly two years ago. My old PC wouldn't have played any of the games you mention at more than 2FPS if at all.

Only exception to this is TF2, but I single player focused games, so whenever I've played it at a mates, it's never really captured my imagination.

Whenever I have played above games they have been good, but never really captured my imagination.

As for steam, I'd rather buy a hard copy, and not have to login into some client every time I play a game. I can easily set up most games to run without needing a CD, and I'd rather spend a bit of time with CD codes (like it's that bad) than wait fifty years for a 10GB game to download on a 2MB line.

I also don't care about achievements, I'd much rather get fun from playing the game than unlocking some random crap I don't care about.

I rest my case.

Ive just played the demo myself on my new quad core vista 64 machine at 1080p on my 40 in telly, it was awesome I also got my surround sound working thanks to DTS connect. I quite enjoyed battering the americans on the land battle. I had them completely surrounded :)

The sea battle was ok, but im not sure i would want to play that side of things that much, as it could get a little samey.

Is there acheivements for this game, like on DOW2(through Windows Live), my xbox gamerscore could do with the boost :)

Yeah I must admit I liked Age of Mythology too, although its a different type of game to the Total War series so not one I would expect them to do. Maybe someone else could do an uptodate one though.
