**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

Gah, at a certain point in the campaign this game just gets unstable. In my Prussia game I had conquered Europe and then the game would CTD every time I tried to load a savegame.

Now in my Ottoman game at 1750something it's a lottery whether I can even click on one of my fleets without the game crashing.

It's a joke. Surely.

CTDs normally point to problems within the text files/database files in the game. That is certainly the case with MTWII anyway. It's taken years to iron out the bugs in the text files in the mod I play with Medieval II, but we have finally managed it. It's a bit of a poor show that you guys are running into the problems so early on. It suggest they need to release several patches.

Trouble is bar a few little patches early on CA don't seem to keep patching with any regularity and we will probably be lucky to see one more big patch before they completely move on to the exspansion. This game has had very well documented issues for a lot of people since day one and those problem sby and large are still there with little if anything done to resolve them. I have to say since sega became the publisher there isn't the emphasis on customer satisfaction there used to be with CA and it is really starting to both annoy me and reading a lot about this game on the net is going to hurt them in the future quite sad.

I too was expecting patches and updates at regular intervals, this has not happened and because of it the game has become poor, shame really I moved on months ago.

Actually if you have been following the official forums you will see that they have been giving daily updates on the progress of the first of the larger patches. The first larger patch is due early this coming week. They have also said several times that this will be the first of several patches.

Yeah i have followed it Tomb as i did with MTW2 and we all know how that ended up more fixes being done by the community then by CA themself. Time will tell but i really get the feeling this is going to be another case of a couple at best patches and then off to the next money maker. Hopefully rumours that sega are pulling out and CA will be going back to activision are true as things were certainly better then.

In my experience of the campaign is that early on when there is little activity throughout the factions, for me there were few issues.

However once you progress past the 1750's when there would appear to be so much more happening with waring factions, increased naval activity etc is when problems like CTD begin.

Yeah that seems to be the gerneral trend you put a lot of time in you get to a certain point and bang things start going wrong i have had hardly any crashes imn the early parts of the game all mine have come later on when i imagine things are more complex for the program to work out. While that may be the reason it still shouldn't be happening and they should get it sorted a lot quicker then they are and the official forums really are not a good place to criticise this game or any aspect of CA.

I certainly agree that it would be a good thing if Sega were gone and it was back to Activision. Mind you, I am also very happy at how all the past Total Wars ended up and I have no doubt and no reason to doubt, that Empire will end up just as good. Then again I do tend to have an optimistic personality :)

Can I just say, I have played this game for a few weeks and it hasnt crashed once.

As Rizla correctly says its the inconsistency thats the problem, and of course as anyone involved in programming knows thats also the hardest thing to resolve.

I myself have now played 3 full campaigns from start to finish without crashing at all. (Prussia, Spain and Sweden). My game is hugely modded though and probably bears little resemblence to the original state now.

I have no actual information to base this on other than gut feeling, but the CTD's I have experienced seem to be caused by game sounds..

Not had fleet crashes, but then I have had mid-turn-processing crashes.

Getting fed up with it to be honest, I think I've honned my line infantry skills as much as I can be bothered with!

My GB campaign is now so totally ******. Year is 1771 and when, as above, select a fleet and boom CTD.

Started a new short land based campaign as my beloved GB is unplayable

EDIT:
