So , i bought this on release and found it to be a buggy pile of crap and decided to shelve it until it is fixed. Is it any better now? I love the total war games so it was a huge dissapointment upon release.

Anyone actively playing it and enjoying it?

Replayed it with the fixes + DarthMod and I enjoyed it.

Shame, I got this game at release and hardly touched it :(

I loved the old Medieval Total War games (even with the bad AI) so I hope the next game is more along the same lines, I think gunfire kinda ruins the game!

empire total war with the darthmod ultimate commander mod is fantastic. Really improves the game.

some people just don't like gunpowder warfare though.

I agree with you. It doesn't float my boat either, but the mod is second to none. I think the beauty of the Total War series was the close-up nature of the battles, and the strategy required to fight them. I remember Rome, the epic battles, and Medieval II, some of the fights in that were stunning. Gunpowder takes a lot of that skill away by introducing a random factor. Obviously the battles are now fought at distance, and I think part of the fun before was the hand to hand melee battles, and the epic mounted knights charging into your men. Plus the Knights looked better, with their gleaming armour and trusty steeds.. Oh the memories!

Played it again recently to see what the patches had brought and I'm still bitterly disappointed.

I really like this era of history and had loved all the Total War games but this was truly abysmal. Not just because of the broken/absent features, broken promises but because the game has a complete lack of character and atmosphere and no patch will fix that.

I find the whole game rather fractured, too much micro managing. However, the use of technologies in the game and split cities in regions make the game a quicker experience, as you try and be as diplomatic as possible whilst exploring and expanding quickly to feed your expensive armies.
I am currently playing the game with the AIUM mod that adds many additional, unique units. This makes the game much more personal, as you battle to keep your unique units alive as long as possible, since they give you that little extra edge.
My main grumbles is the problems associated with defending or attacking fortifications. Half the time units get stuck or they disobey orders when they are on the fortifications.
