Empyrion - Galactic Survival is a 3D open world, space survival adventure in which you can fly across space and land on planets.
Build, explore, fight and survive in a hostile galaxy full of hidden dangers. The game uniquely combines elements from space simulations, construction games, survival games and ego-shooters. The game is currently under development by Eleon Game Studios.

Saw this a few weeks ago on Scott Manleys channel. Looks pretty interesting, probably gonna pick it up tonight.

Anyone else been following this or picked it up. Maybe we can get a server going for us lot :D

Picked it up 10 minutes ago, It's not bad per se, but not brilliant yet (pre alpha)

Watching some tutorial videos. Got the basics down at least.

Quite enjoying it, was playing coop with 3 friends. The survival stuff with the oxygen and food gathering is very nice.

Looking forward to getting my base set up.

Shame its early access or I would have considered it 99% of games in early access dont get finished and the system has become a joke. Defiantly one to watch tho

Just bought this (@ 50% off) so thought I would necro the thread :)

Still very much trying to work out what to do where, and why, but seems to have potential!

It's definitely got potential, I played it for a bit in single player to learn what to do. When I went into multiplayer just found it hard to get started as the planets I landed on had already been strip mined of most of the resources.

+6,000 reviews on Steam and 85% of them are positive. I guess this game is worth the ~15 bucks price tag.

I bought it at 50% off so a bargain really :)

It's definately a sttep learning curve and I'm still not entirely sure what I'm suppose to be ultimately doing? Just surviving? Attacking enemy bases (which I've just found)? Or just getting off the planet?

Well there are other planets but yeah not sure what the goal is.
I got killed by a base last night not sure how u take over the things.

I'm in a survival mood atm so I might try space engineers next

Space engineers not really a survival game as it's more sandbox builder.

Empyrion has more survival elements then SE but I have not played empyrion for long time now so I will check out again tomorrow.

There's no real objective. It's a kind of sandbox builder with survival and exploration elements.

Survive and collect resources, grow food, build bases and ships, take over enemy bases and whatever resources are there, or just blow their stuff up.

Some of the bases are well defended with lethal turrets, so can be hard playing on your own, especially on other planets with harder difficulty levels where the bases are clustered together. Trying to target their turrets while trying not to get blown up by the multiple bases shooting back is not easy. Certainly easier with more players though.

I used to play with a couple of friends on our own server and it was good fun. There's been a lot of new stuff since then, so might revisit the game at some point to check out the changes.

So I'm just building my first shall ship.

I've got a couple of questions about the directional thrusters?
1) Does it matter if you cover them over? eg: Put a block over the thruster?
2) Does their placement actually matter? eg: If you want your ship to be able to turn left and right (as of your course you do), do you need to place a pair of thrusters at the front, one facing left and one facing right, and another pair at the rear, one facing left and one facing right? Or can you just point a single thruster left and a single right and the game's happy with that? If it's the former then in the real world, the further along the ship you place them the more they'd help you turn (ie: you'd put then as far forwards/backwakds as you can to improve turning). Basically how realistic are the physics behind thrusters?

I'll swear I took away my up and down thrusters from anywhere except along the center (Y) axis, and yet my ship can still somehow spin along its Y axis, even though there's no thrusters to permit that? I'd expect to need to have thrusters pointing down out on my wings for example to allow that to happen?

It may well have changed since I last played (4-5 months ago), but it wasn't realistic at all. You could basically attach the required thrusters to a square box with a seat on it, and it would fly the same as something you'd spent ages building. I don't think aerodynamics or even weight was a factor.

... be interested to know if it has changed though.

I'm wondering, if we just consider turning (rotating) left and right, if we consider these two designs (viewed from the top)...

Code:
< Right thruster
> Left thruster

SHIP A

   -
 >| |<
  | |
  | |
  | |
 >| |<
   -

SHIP B

   -
  | |
  | |
 >| |<
  | |
  | |
   -

Ship B shouldn't even be about to turn/rotate? But do you recon it would?

On a hover craft you need forward / back and left and right making sure to have the same number of thrusters in the opposite direction.
On small vehicles you need thrusters in every direction.
Remember to fit the rcs to stabilise it.

I'm currently working on my capital ship atm.

Oh God! It's worse than I thought! This thing should not even be able to lift off or slide left or right with all the thruster at the far rear... But it flies fine. ie: You can put thrusters anywhere, so your design choices count for nil :(

All that time in the wind-tunnel for nothing eh :p

It's a shame and I can only hope they'll improve on it so thruster placement (& center of gravity) do play a part!
