Enabling remote desktop on windows 8

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to enable remote desktop access on my Windows 8 (standard) version HP Laptop, id like to connect my S4 and use it as a remote but it seems only the Pro and Enterprise Win 8 version allows this, is there a work around?

remote as in to change tunes etc - unified remote, gmote or similar

actually remote desktop - splashtop, teamviewer or similar - they add a 'background' program to windows which is used to connect
