Great CS lol.

Cool. When do Intel refund me the difference between my 8700K and the 8700? Probably right after the pro rata refund for the loss of performance I see from all the Spectre/Meltdown/Rowhammer/Soiler type 'mitigations'. :D

Intel CS is reasonably pathetic, their website and diagnostic tools are also completely broken, unable to read voltages and values from their own parts properly when third party tools do a better job. From experience you need to push them to get any results. Had a back and forth with them around December 2018 where I was trying to rule out a dead motherboard, dead ram or dead CPU.

They basically wanted me to 100% confirm that the CPU was dead before sending it off to them, which I couldn't do because I don't happen to have parts laying about, nor would it have been economical to buy another CPU. I offered to pay to post the CPU to them and have them test it and then pay to get it back, but "they didn't do that service". Turns out they send any RMA CPUs straight to the dumpster without testing and just dispatch a new one. Anyway, after a while the customer service agent decided to "make me a one off exception and RMA the cpu since it was Christmas". Of course the CPU comes back to me and has completely solved my problems. Absolute trash tier customer service from such a large company. Guess I should be grateful they "made an exception" for their warranty to be worth anything at all.

Mean while during the same troubleshooting run I had Corsair customer service bending over backwards to help with my issue, sent me a loaner ram kit on their advance RMA service for collateral, constant contact and fast turn around, no query seemed to be too big an ask for them.

Good luck with your processor, just keep pushing them along gently and you might get there, hope you get it sorted.

So, they create processors specifically for the purpose of being overclocked, but if you overclock them then you void the warranty? I wonder what the relevant consumer rights enforcement authorities would have to say about that!

They even provide the software that enables users to void their own warranties!

Yeah, so basically they're giving you all the tools, telling you to go right ahead and do it, then claiming that you've voided the warranty afterwards? I'm pretty sure that's illegal, at least here in Europe.

I expect they'd have very little to say about it.

The 9900K for example doesn't exist to be overclocked, it works at stock.

However at the cost of warranty you can overclock it, as opposed to giving no choice at all by only selling locked processors.

Parts are not covered for overclocking. Motherboards can be overclocked, but if you fry them that's on you.
That said, and XMP profile is a bit thick to try bulking on.
