Enabling XMP

Hi all,

sorry if this has been asked before, but I noticed my memory hasn't been running at the correct speed - 1300mhz is current setting, but should be 2400mhz.

I've read that this is due to not having XMP enabled - does anyone have any info on this for a Gigabyte Z87X-OC? I've noticed the XMP setting before, but It opened up a load of other options I think, so I left it alone assuming it was for overclocking and that my memory was low to accommodate lower CAS timing or my CPU overclock. Is it just a matter of enabling it and leaving the settings, or do I need to start adjusting stuff to get the most out of my memory?

Yes, sorry it was 1333Mhz. I enabled XMP and it has a smiple slider to change the memory multiplier, so I bumped it to 1600Mhz and all is well so far - according to SIS Sandra it went from around 16gb/s bandwith to 19gb/s, so a reasonable increase by the looks of it!

Yeah, rated to 2400Mhz. I'm running the 4670 at 4ghz now and just making sure it's all stable. I'll keep turning it up and see how it likes it.

I remember reading about the memory controllers only being useful up to a point, and that was around 1600. I'll see how much more bandwidth it offers at higher speeds and see if it makes much difference at the top end.
