I know, pretty strange post on what is the hottest day of the year down my way at least!

I'm looking to purchase an enamel cast iron casserole dish some time soon.

I'm looking at one around 5l.

Budget isn't set in stone. Less than £50 would be great. £50 - £100 could work if I feel its worth it. £100+ is a bit crazy, but I suppose I could do it if I really wanted to.

I COULD go all out and get a le creuset, but its a lot of money. I think they cost about the same as my oven did, so I'm not really that keen to drop that kind of money on a pot!

The Sainsbury's ones look pretty good for the money, I'm tempted by those.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

We were given a Le Creuset as a present and it is fabulous, but as you say, they aren't cheap.

I've been tempted to try the Sainsbury's ones a few times to add a couple more to the cupboard, but have resisted so far.

I have a 2.5L Sainsburys cast iron enamel pan. I'm very happy with it. Apart from the black handle and the embossed Le Creuset name it's a match for my genuine Le Creuset pans. I would recommend it.

I know you all really want me to get a Le Cruset, but I don't think I'm going to spend £160+ on a casserole dish today. Maybe when (if?) I get married I'll put it on the list lol.
You can pick them up 2nd hand a LOT cheaper than that... plus the likes of John Lewis drop their prices dramatically around Xmas/New Year. I don't think I've ever paid even half that!

Le Creuset, despite its price, isn't the best on the market. Staub is considered the best.

However, I have a Sainsbury cast iron casserole enamel pan with a very smart matt black exterior and interior. I must say it does everything I want it to do. Loads of choices for cast iron. Ikea have them. Aldi sells them from time to time. Lodge is another brand worth looking out for. House of Fraser have them under their Linea range. Argos sells them.

I'd recommend a trip to home sense if you have one near.

We got a large cast iron with ceramic inside for around £20. Forgot the brand but it's well known (not some TV chef endorsed crap).

I have a Sainsbury's one I picked up when on half price and it had lasted years. Personally I'd go a route similar to that. You can always go out and buy an expensive one in 5 years time if you think it'll be worth it and the Sainsbury's/whatever one has failed (which I think unlikely).

Interesting...

the 26cm (5l) lakeland in grey is reduced to £50, so that could well be an option.

The Lakeland is a very good option. I remember seeing them in Lakeland years ago and they look good. Unfortunately, they didn't have my required size so I opted for Sainsbury's one.

Not me. Staub is the one as it's good enough for James Martin. I've seen them in Selfridges a few years ago and they look far better than Le Creuset. Staub is for people in the know.

lakeland stuff is generally really good.

they take a lot of feed back it seems talking to he staff and actually make changes.

I have both in different sizes. For a casserole, the Sainsbury's one performs just like the Le Creuset one. I would not buy Le Creuset for a casserole or kettles or stoneware etc that they do also. You are paying for the name only.

I have a Sainsbury's one and it works great. They seem to regularly have them on offer where you can save 1/3 or something.

The enamel did chip off mine for some reason after a couple of years but I took it back to the store and they gladly swapped it, even without the receipt which was nice.

Whether it's for Le Creuset or whoever your best bet is generally second hand on ebay as the prices are so much lower - I've picked up several bits and bobs on there that have lasted me years.

Thanks for the advice everyone

I was weighing up my options, deciding what to get, and I noticed the lakeland pot dropped by another £10, so I decided to grab that as it was probably what I was going to end up getting anyway.

Its avalible through amazon, and I had a £15 gift certificate to use, so even better
