Enclosed toilet/basin replaced with freestanding?

The house I am buying has an enclosed toilet and basin (possibly called a combination unit?) in a single piece of furniture, much like this here: http://www.victoriaplumb.com/Bathro...-Gloss-Combination-Vanity-Unit-Large_182.html

I would imagine this is to hide unsightly pipe work. The issue I am having is that there is very little choice and I'd be stuck with almost an identical unit which I am not massively keen on, so I'm looking at going for the traditional free standing units.

What do I need to be aware of? As the piping is hidden right now in the unit itself, will this require a lot of plumbing work to allow me to go for something more readily available?

Edit: I have looked around B&Q, bathstore etc and everything is much of a muchness. What are the online bathroom retailers like in terms of quality?

It's just a vanity unit, you can build your own with some studding and ply, tile / laminate the front and get a nice piece of stone / laminate / corian for the top.

Plumbing would be a day with minimal materials, 1/2 a day 1st fix and 1/2 a day second fix.

We are currently installing a lot of back painted glass which seems to be the trend.

I have used kitchen wall cabinets & base cabinets for vanity units, just build a frame for it to sit, better than using legs, & you can screw kickboard to it from behind through the frame, so no fixings showing.

You can get different height wall units, & you can further tweak height by adjusting frame height.

EDIT: You could use a base unit with two wall cabinet set back, so the vanity sink, is projected slightly forward, loads of thing you can do with them.
And if a base unit is too deep, you can cut it down to reduce the depth slightly.

That's an interesting idea, I like the idea of some storage under the sink but a standard toilet. I'll take a look at that.

I'll try and upload some pictures as an example of what's there today. I'll get a few plumbers in for some quotes as soon as I get the keys.
