Not the cheapest in the world but Apple used a proprietary connector during that period of Mac's. Check the compatibility before purchasing though and likewise with other third-party enclosures (for Apple SSD's) as some restrict what Apple SSD's can be used.

You need an NGFF M2 SATA enclosure/adapter. If you Google that you'll find several options.
Can you get Apple's proprietary connector to M2 adaptors?
I've seen the opposite so you can install third-party drives in your MB/MBP etc but not ones that allow you install Apple drives in standard NVME M2 enclosures - would be handy if you could though.

Never seen an NGFF (female) to M.2 (male) adapter. Maybe they do exist somewhere. Always the other way around to upgrade mac SSDs with standard M.2 drives. Those were the good old days.
