I have backed up my 140 blurays to iso and MKV on my PC... Some of the 4k HDR stuff stutters abit at times.

I would like to save space on my 6tb hard drive as its quickly filling up and thinking of converting a percentage of movies (not favourites) to X265

I plan to use handbrake as reading good reviews on it....

Would it be possible to get 99% picture quality and HD audio streams with X265?

I read it's best to set conversion quality to normal rather than full on the slider bar as there doesn't seem to make much difference in picture quality..

Just wondering your thoughts?

One last thing.. I'm guessing streaming files via Kodi will be much easier/better with X265 rather than original ISO? as it's a smaller file

:)

4k stuff will stutter pc cant handle decoding, unless your hw has x265 decoding built in dont bother
even a rpi running kodi can handle native 1080p bluray mkv fine via a networked source (std 100Mbit lan or even lowly 77Mbit wifi))

delete the iso's keep the mkv's (2 copies twice the space)
for the amount of time and energy(literally as in watts electricity) used converting using handbrake IMHO its cheaper to just buy another disk

Its not exactly PC or abides by the licensing etc but if I genuinly owned movies and music files to backup into one place I would see if I could download them through some means over a period of time. I havnt used torrent sites in a long time and lately stream from amazon/netflix/etc these days. Going back to the days of ripping stuff was fun but so time consuming and resources needed, there really is no point now when you can download from somewhere. As to covering your back and doing it legitimately then thats over to you! :)
