I just upgraded from a C2D E6600 to a Quad Q6600 and use Convert X to dvd to encode movies and don't see a whole lot of difference between the two. I am using the version of convert x which is supposed to be the fastest(dont think it is the latest though). I wonder if it is the program which isn't optimized for quad. Has anybody else been using quad to encode movies and what kind of results are you getting?

, ..I get your point, but I have a perfectly good dvd player at the moment (although doesnt play xvid) that plays any disc I throw at it with dvd video files on it. Since it doesnt take long to convert xvid on my Quad now, i'll just wait untill this dvd player starts to pack in before buying the £20 one that plays xvid
