Looking to encrypt an exFAT external drive that be access from both Windows and MacOS. I know this therefore needs to be a third-party software, or done via other means (ie encrypting data via .zips). It needs to be free so the end user/client can decrypt and transfer easily and without cost.

Any recommendations on how to go about this?

Could as you said
Make passworded zip file
But that means zipping and unzipping
Everytime you want access
If its a lot of data that could be time consuming

I know little about apple stuff
But from memory not my strong point lol
Only time I worked with mac volumes for someone
I think I used veracrypt which worked on both mac and windows

7zip for archive encrypting ((not sure if there is a gui version for macos though!) or someting like VeraCrypt should do the job?
