Any one using any backup software that will turn on the hardware encryption on LTO-4 drives?
LTO-4 tape drives support hardware encryption but only app ive found so far that turns it on is HP Data Protector.
Other option is to get an HP EKM server, but that's a wee bit to expensive and only works on the LTO-4 libraries, im just using stand alone tape drives.

Backup exec 11 on wards supports encryption. but its software based and bumps up my backup by 2 hours.

cheers for that, will take a look.
Came across some software called Yosemite Backup, that enables the hardware encryption on LTO-4 drives as well.

I've always wondered whether Yesemite was any good. I know Dell bundle it with their servers but I've never had the gaul to move away from Backup Exec.

same here, been using backup exec for about 9 or so years now.
But with all the calls for making sure PID is encrypted or not easy to gain access to, looking at ways to utilize the hardware encryption built into LTO-4 drives.

Likewise using an ML6000 library here with BUExec 12 using AES encryption.

Allthough the ML6000 supports encryption natively.

Just priced up Backup Exec V12 and its not bad an upgrade cost.
Now trying to find out if there is an "official" method from HP about putting a SAS LTO-4 drive into the 3U scsi Tape enclosure.
Looking at the enclosure i can get a SAS cable in no problem so it can be done by other methods ;)
