I have a folder of photos/videos I want to encrypt.

My plan is to right click on said folder, properties, advanced, than encrypt.

This folder is not on the C:\ drive.

My question; is this encryption linked to my current Windows installation? Say for example I want to fresh install Windows, will the encryption still be accessible? I assume once encrypted, and I choose a password, that password will work no matter what?

This folder contaons pics/videos of my daughter, so would hate to lose this data

Assuming you're using Windows native NTFS encryption, have a read of this.

You could also consider storing backups of your secret stuff on a Truecrypt-encrypted volume - do always bear in mind that "data security" and "ease of recovery in the event of something going pear-shaped" tend to be inversely proportional for obvious reasons. :)
