Anyone have any thoughts on how to make encryption do what it should, or a way around it for Exchange accounts?

I'm trying to set up an Exchange email account on my phone which requires, amongst other things, device encryption (on supported devices). I've got a Desire HD, which until recently was running Android 2.3 (which doesn't support encryption), and I wasn't having any problems. Last week I upgraded to Jelly Bean, and it won't let me use it without encrypting the phone. Trouble is, it won't encrypt - when I click the encrypt button it just sits there with a picture of an android indefinitely - not doing anything. I've tried this with and without SD card in place.
This is a bit of a pain, so really just wondering if anyone knows how to either make it work without encryption, or how to make encryption work!

Cheers

Is this a work phone or personal? By and large i do not recommend doing this to personal phones and what you say will alter what i suggest :)

Don't do it. You need to format /usr then encrypt (effectively - a factory reset). Honestly, it's not worth the risk when you can probably just use OWA or similar from your phone anyway. If you need work email get them to give you a handset, don't let them control yours :(

Hmm :(
Hoped it would be easier than that. Ah well. Work won't give me a phone unfortunately but I guess I can use the web app.
I was after the convenience but this plus a performance hit for running encryption doesn't sound worth it..

Thanks for the help :)
