Hi,

If I set up RAID 1 via the BIOS and then encrypt the entire capacity using VeraCrypt how does a single drive failure affect the encryption?

So if a drive fails and I replace it do I simply rebuild the array or will I have lost all the encrypted data too and be forced to reencrypt the RAID 1 rebuilt array?

Thanks :)

Theoretically the RAID array should just be a hardware device with only the controller knowing/caring how many drives are available. As VeraCrypt is software based I don't see why adding a drive and repairing the array should be an issue.

This is not something I've tried myself though, so you may want to wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to respond.

A simple re-build of the array after a disc failure will get you back to where you were. Because with Raid1 both discs are mirrored it's a very strait forward task, although it may take some time depending on the amount of data to be re-mirrored.
