End of Watch

Looks good although it's probably just me, I cannot for the life of me take Jake Gyllenhaal seriously in any of his films.

Took me a while to get used to the "we're not using one of the cameras we've shown you, but it's still handheld" style shooting, but it is a very good film.

I liked it, I was engrossed from the start until 90% of the way through. I could have easily have watched more, but then the ending was so abrupt and unexpected. It changed the whole outlook of the film. Still not sure what to make of it.

One thing I have to ask about...

when you seen the head drug guys and heard their phone call asking for the hit to be made to the both of them, it was being observed by what I assume where those NARC drug guys you seen earlier at the house with the trafficked people in it. Does that mean they knew about the hit taken out against them and said and did nothing!

They knew but obviously the case was too big to risk intervening

Can imagine this being how it would happen in reality.

What a movie, in my top 5 of the year without a doubt.

in scene where the drug king pin is ordering the hit. you clearly see it says top secret at the top and at the bottom "U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement" which is clearly not dea or Narc police. they deal with US borders, human trafficking, customs, handling and deportation of illegal immigrants. if you remember when they found the illegal immigrants lock in the house the cops in green colour tactical fatigues pull up as they exit the house, they most likely narco or SIS (Special Investigations Section). then few second later you can clear see agents in blue jacket with ICE on the backs scanning and taking the illegal immigrants away.

watch this the other night, thought it was very good.

it was a great ride but lol at how they didn't get hit by 3 ak's being unloaded on them from that range!

I have to go against the grain on this one, I don't think it's great.

They over-egged what they were trying to do, the human/cop buddies aspect - this also made the outcome pretty obvious, during the wedding I was bored and wondering when the actual story was going to happen - feel they should just have built that a little more and a little earlier.

Despite that it's a good film still.

Have to agree with the above, I enjoyed the film but wanted more from it. There was a surprising lack of direction, or at least the sense of direction was lacking for me.

We obviously know where it's going once they are told that they're stepping on the cartels toes, but even then, as stated above there's scenes like the wedding and all I was really thinking there was ok this is the point where I'm being made to care about these people, and the eventual payoff is one or both dies. And they telegraphed the ending very badly too, basically once the conversation happens about looking after kids/wifes if anything happens, you know from then the opposite will happen.

I liked it, and I'm by no means here with a million ideas that would make it "better", but it fell way short of blowing me away, which was a disappointment to me.

Spoiler tagged for the sensitive souls, but come on, this is not a film in the distant future, people are watching this, it's on full uk release in days, maybe avoid the thread until having seen the film if the slightest hint of a spoiler will annoy.
