Ending Contract Advice

Hi guys, as I've been with Orange for... 16-18 years (whenever they began) and only last year took a second contract on Three, I've never had to actually end a phone contract, so I thought I'd ask for some advice.

So, the situation, I wouldn't actually mind staying with Orange (well, EE on 4G) if I can get a good deal, but at the same time I really am ready to quit if I can't, I wont just be yanking their chain.

My contract is due to end on November 22nd, so I'm due an upgrade now.

I understand my best chance to get a great deal is to call and ask for my PAC code, but will this terminate the contract immediately before they have chance to have someone call me back and offer me a great deal?

Has anyone had recent experience with Orange, are they more likely to just say "Okay, here it is..." and let me walk?

So I had been thinking it would be better to wait until Nov 22nd to call for my PAC code, but in fact if I did that, I have to pay for another month. I need to call now then?

dont just ask for your pac code, say you are thinking of leaving because you have seen a better deal elsewhere

that willl still get you through to retentions dept, and then negotiate with them from there

i also been with them that long/ but mine is not due til feb2013, i was happy to pay off my contract but they told me i couldnt have any loyalty discount until feb, even if i pay it off :(

I've done this in the past and my last upgrade was a well priced Desire HD, but aren't the best deals if I hold firm with retentions and then someone calls me back in a couple of days, or is that not how Orange do it? Retention's are the last line...?

i would just tell them you seem a better deal but have the details ready so you can tell them what phone they offer and what mins etc. then if they don't offer you a good deal end the contract. then you need to start a new one, then ask orange for your pac code and give it to you new network.

But I can't offer a deal that I would want them to match, as no-one has 4G but them... I know I want an LTE (S3 or Note 2) and 5gb of data, so it's about what price they can offer me that at I guess.

Well, I say 'want', I'm not all that bothered. If they said 'bye then' I wouldn't be fussed. I guess I call and say I want to cancel and see what they say...

You want to say something like the 4G deals are too expensive (but you want one) so are going to walk and ask for your PAC code. Once you have that you have 30 days to use it, once you do use it that automatically cancels your contract. If you don't use it then your contract carries on so just wait a few days/a week and see if anyone rings, if they don't then get a new contract and give them your PAC code.

Well, they didn't have much to offer, not relating to 4G anyway. The guy was kinda surprised when I said 'I guess I'm going to need my PAC code then...'

'But what are you going to use?'

'I told you, I have a Three contract. You can probably see, I've only used my Orange SIM one day this year...'

'Oh...'

I'll let you know if any calls me back over the next few days, but I get the impression they don't want to offer any deals on 4G at this point.

Found this on the big Hot UK Deals thread:

Once you have a PAC you are under no obligation to use it, and you have about 4 weeks to do so (to transfer your number to another operator and terminate your contract with the present one. Until (and unless) you use the PAC things will simply continue with your current network so you haven't burnt any bridges.

Any thoughts?

I'm coming to end of my contract as well in November..

Thoughts on what? That is the case yes, as I wrote earlier in the thread. :)

Usually if you haven't used it straight away someone will ring you back after a day or two and try and persuade you back.
