endless network adapter issues.

Hi guys, o have been having endless network issues for the past month. I use a vpn sometimes and I think windows 7 got confused about which drivers worked for which adapter.
I have been trying to uninstall all network adapters through device manager and then reinstall just the Lan driver from the cd that came with my laptop.

Whenever I try to sort this out I get the "device driver software was not successfully installed" and the network is unidentified.

Would really like to avoid a reformat as I only did one 6 weeks ago. Is there another way I should be going about this or some software that will clean up any corruption?

Don't use the CD, it will have old drivers.

Get latest drivers online.

Never use a CD that comes with any hardware, they're always old.

Use System Restore to go back to when it was working? Not sure how well it'll work if driver files have been removed from the filesystem though. You'll probably need to reinstall any programs you've added since the restore point.
