Does anyone use EndNote at all? I'm wondering if I should be getting it because I'm starting to build up a mass of PDF files. Still, I'm finding it hard to do simple things like citing the same source from two different articles, so I figured if I could have a citation database in EndNote, I could save it there and take it from the EndNote database when needed.

The question is, do you think it is worth the cost, or are there any free or open-source alternatives?

I used mendeley for writing my masters thesis, changed adding references from a chore to a simple 1 click on the pdf page and a couple clicks in the text of document. When it came time to insert my references at the end it added all 59 of them without issue.

I ended up using Mendeley instead of EndNote because you got 2GB or 3GB (can't remember which) of free storage and it works well under Linux which is important for me. I'm really getting organised now when it comes to all of my research which is awesome. If you add in OneNote you have a pretty powerful system (I use the OneNote web app on Linux).
