I'm having one next week, petrified to be honest, how should I take it? :D :(

I think it's GERD, hopefully nothing more serious.

I had a stomach ulcer and the gerd etc, the endoscopy was uncomfortable but not horrendous, i didnt have the sedative, i would advise taking the sedative when offered - just calms the nerves etc if you dont want to take it though, you will be fine, its over quickly
How long did you have gerd for mate? What medication did they give you for it? What symptoms did you have? I've had this going on for 3 month now and it's doing my nut in, the constant stomach pains are making me think it's not GERD, also got.major heartburn which I've never really had before.

Have they not given you any antibiotics to kill the bacteria that causes the ulcers? That was what caused my ulcer, like an idiot I ignored the pain and just got on with it. Until the morning it perforated that is, it was like the worst stomach cramps ever! I couldn't relax my stomach muscles for anything, ended up getting ambulance to hospital and surgery.
They gave me lansoprazole but it made me much worse and gave me diarrhea, so they said i might as well stop taking it, i think you need to stop taking lansoprazole before having an endoscopy anyway so be pointless going back on it now.

Thanks people

Keep getting it into my head that I have stomach cancer, even though I don't have most of the symptoms (just stomach pain and constant heartburn) just never had something going on like this for 3 month before so just keep thinking the worst.

Hopefully Tuesday will go fine.

I just had the gastroscopy/OGD (via the mouth) without sedation and it was fine, 5 mins of discomfort. They give you a numbing throat spray, shove a thing in your mouth to stop you biting the endoscope and then gently put the scope in. Swallowing the thing was surprisingly easy. I didn’t gag for some reason (well only once when he was doing the throat spray) - surprising as the back of the throat COVID tests make me gag without fail.

The suggestion of picking something to look at with a death stare, relaxing and focusing on breathing through your mouth worked a treat so I was massively grateful for that advice.

Mind over matter indeed!
nice one, got mine tomorrow.

Google tell me 1 in 2000 people die from endoscopy, that cant be right surely?

So I've got to go back and get mine done again because I started puking near the end, I didn't even eat for 6 hours like they said, they did say I have a small hiatis hernia and gastritis (non erosive) from what they have found so far. Just a pain I have to go back.

The sedation had me clean out for most of it.

My gastritis doesn't seem to be going away, been on two different ppis, non acidic diet for a month, tried a few different supplements to help.

Just constant stomach pain and heartburn, it's ripping my life apart, thinking of quitting my job or atleast going part time for now.

Didn't even know this was a thing, second endoscopy on Tuesday hopefully I can get some answers but doubt it, they rush you out of the place once it's done.

Before Christmas I didn't get any stomach pain at all and never got heartburn, don't know wtf has changed.

Seen doc....full bloods requested. Gave me tabs for tummy. Dont want an endoscopy!
Honestly mate if your symptoms continue don't let the endoscopy worry you, just get sedated.

I'm actually looking forward to mine on Tuesday so try and get some answers

Tried the endoscopy twice today with throat spray, couldn’t tolerate it. I ended up freaking out big time. Had to abort. Gutted, feel like I let everyone down.

Have to go back at some point for sedation.
I couldn't get it done without sedation either, sedation is what I had.

Hopefully it goes smoothly for you next time mate,.once that sedation goes in you stop giving a ****.

Just got back from my second, they are now saying it's antral gastritis whatever that is, they want me to try taking anxiety tablets too.

My heart rate went through the roof when I went in 180? Which was was mental to me as I felt very calm. They were all panicking for a bit and hooked me up to ECG.
