wtf is it about this game now? Each time i try and join a server I get some stupid 'mod' which requires downloading, but the download never starts (probably because the server's bandwidth is being hammered).

It seems to be going the same way as CS did - 100mb downloads each time you wanted to play.

Can't they just leave it alone?

it must be the servers youre trying to connect to. i was playing less than a month ago with a new install and it was fine, i had to download the basic stuff to get running like maps and stuff but it wasnt taking ages to download.
try different servers mate really.

its probably et pro ? google and download it most servers run this competition mod.

Yep plus different srevrs have differnt campaigns, sounds better graphics, like my clan server u will have to dl the campaign and some maps if u dont all ready have them, its just a way of life
