I used to pay 42 a month for gas and electric with Scottish Power, but they have hiked it up to 64 now and I am looking to shop about. Does anyone know any good ones to switch to or how simple or difficult it is ?

Yep, I'm in the same boat with Power Gen. Was paying £45 a month, now they are looking to increase to £72 a month... I pretty much told them where to go, as I only pay monthly to get the discounts.

I'll save the rest in my account, and when the bill comes in I''ll pay the rest then, but I'm not paying them anymore, as they are greedy buggers..

and yes, they are all on the increase.. So, shop around I''ll perhaps join you.

Uswitch is paid for by the industry. For all practical reasons the gas and electricity companies are buying and selling gas in the same markets for the same prices. The only area for real efficiency savings is in administration.

If you are happy with the service you get why risk moving the hassle of swapping supplier is significant and often ends up in months of wrangling over bills as the poorly integrated admin systems **** it up. The cost savings are small unless you live in a mansion with 15 kids and leave the windows open and lights on all the time.

The price rises are of course down to cover the cost of buying all Power Industry employees ivory back scratchers.
