I'm putting a new build together and was wondering whether my existing 7 year old enermax psu will do the job and save me a few bob?

The rig I'm planning on will have an Asus or Gigabyte MB with the Z170 chipset and an Skylake i5 6600k cpu. I doubt I'll be running SLI or crossfire to start with. It'll power 1 DVD drive also.

The reviews I read suggested that this is an 80%+ psu so will it be ok?

It has (or used to have) 456w across a pair of 12v rails so in theory it should be ok depending on the gpu you get. It is 7 years old though and will have degraded a bit by now so I would retire it and buy a new psu to be on the safe side. A quality 550w psu will be more than enough for your needs. Take a look at these:-

Non-modular

My basket at Overclockers UK:

The Antec (review here) is a Seasonic built unit with 540w on the 12v rail and the Superflower has 546w on the 12v rail. Both are gold rated and both have a 5 year warranty.

Modular

My basket at Overclockers UK:

The Superflower Leadex Gold 550w has bright white led's where you plug the cables in that cannot be turned off. Apart from that it's a excellent psu which has all of it's 550w on the 12v rail and a 5 year warranty. Review here.

The EVGA Supernova GS 550w (review here)and 650w (review here) are Seasonic built units both of which have 5 year warranties. The 550w has 540w on the 12v rail while the 650w has 648w on the 12v rail.

The EVGA Supernova G2 650w is a Superflower built unit and is basically a Leadex Gold with a different fan and no led's. It has a excellent 7 year warranty. Review here.

The Corsair RM650X has 648w on the 12v rail and has a 7 year warranty. Can't find a review on the 650w version but one on the 750w version is here.

Cracking value at the moment is the XFX TS750w at £72.95. It's a Seasonic built gold rated unit with a 5 year warranty and 744w on the 12v rail. The downside is that all the cables are hardwired. No reviews of the 750w version but there is one of the 650w version here.

Many thanks for your reply - truly appreciated.

The motherboard I am looking at comes with a FREE coolermaster G750M. This would be good enough no? It's 80+.

Did I mention its free?? :D
