Ever since I saw an Enfield Bullet on a trip to India I've always wanted one. I think it's the old school vibe from it.

Now I've got to the point where I may be able to afford lessons and the bike. Is it worth getting one just because of some childhood obsession or am I better off with a Japanese bike?

friend of mine did the same, his was actually riding trip (scared the **** out of him!)..he bought one but only as a weekend bike..he has a GS as his daily rider

Mate, go with your gut instinct. At the end of the day, do your lessons etc etc... and take one out, it might be that you fall in love with it, or think you know what, it doesn't feel how I expected or whatever. I tend to fall head over heels in love with things, Plasma's, Cars, my current new bike etc and I go with the heart...

I can totally see the charm of the Enfield for lazy cruises through the country on a sunny day, and they are very good on fuel. However if you want knee down thrills then forget it, they are neither fast nor great handling machines.
