Engine Cleaning

Right the gasget on the rocker (sp?) cover wnt and so a litre of oil later I replaced it so.. how the hell do i get it off the engine? I know i could leave it there but if its cleaned its easir to spot other leak should they appear

So ideas?

Silkoline engine degreaser. Spray on, 10 mins later hose off.

Gunk does the same job if you can't find any Silkoline

Is water safe in the engine also how long afte driving 2/3 hours or next morning?
