got in the car to go to a clients site, noticed a rattle, got ready to cry, drove out the car park, rattle got worse, pulled over and saw £2000 flash before my eyes.

looks like i wont be making the RR im afraid

truely gutted :(

im going to speak to the guys that did the rebuild going pop after 8k miles is clearly crap, im more gutted about missing the RR id been looking forward to that for ages. had no symptons from the defis oil pressure and temp was fine, I guess its just luck of the draw.

ah well live and learn

the seller couldnt have covered up a bearing failure, I dont for one minute suspect foul play its just bad luck, reading the p1 forums people can carry on for 50k+ miles without a problem or have the engine go pop again after 500 miles, its just luck, I'm not put off by this im just now rather skint :p

like I said though the rolling road is a real blow

You still coming as a speccy? I'm sure someone will be willing to give you a lift.

nah I need all the overtime I can get now - £75 an hour for saturdays so that will go along way to paying for the rebuild

WTF! I'm shocked, I was reading down thinking yep definately a wind up, but no.

Really sorry to hear that Will. Proper gutting to lose a engine, let alone a freshly built one.

:(

should have stuck with hairdryers :p

still a very small chance I can get the garage that did the rebuild to fix it but im not really holding out much hope. need to decide which engine to go for now, maybe 2.2 or 2.5 but not sure atm if I can afford the remap and enginge transplant.

bah oh well, gibbo, no idea about the BMW not driven it, its a 54 reg thing its at our other offices and I havent been there yet :)

yeah the bottom end went in the carpark from my work after a very boring drive in and utterly no hanky panky, its just bad luck, if it had gone doing 150mph then I would blame myself, as it is im just mildly annoyed im not going to get to the RR :(

ok

update

Just went over there with my mate who tunes cossies (has a 600hp one) and he had a look over it, turned out the intercooler had blown the hose connecting it to the throttle body, in doing so this caused it to wedge against the strut brace.

so maybe,

the knocking was the IC on the strut brace, the weird idling, stalling and misfires were caused by the lack of IC / air pressure

so maybe,

the car is fine, ive just driven it for 20 mins not got one light on the knocklink (apart from the single green power one :p), sooooo it may be that the car is fine, I'm kind of in shock, I'm never that lucky and had already ordered a new 2.2 :( luckily they let me cancel the order :D

so I'm going to drive home without the stereo on and listen to everything!! HOPEFULLY everything will be ok *crosses fingers*

so in the spirit of the david beckham broken bone scenario I'd like you to all stroke this picture and pray for my scoob to AOK

thanks and if you believe in him, praise be to god!!!

Heh, and you thought you had killed the engine. Schoolboy.

Of course, I've *never* ever blown my intake boost pipe, absolutely **** myself and cried down the phone to my mate... who calmly asked me to pop my bonnet and check said pipe. All whilst on the hard sholder of the M1 with only an adjustable spanner to hand. Nooo, never.

I've done it loads of times, thing is usually I do it under boost, this must have just wriggled off on idle, how it wedged itself under the strut brace im not sure but if it does turn out to be the problem I will be sooooooooo happy! :D

Seriously gutted for you about the P1, thats terrible dude :( :(

But... you have a 535d and you've not even bothered to go and get it? OMG, they are awesome.

Go and get it, bring it to the RR day, and wind up all the petrol boys as your diesel gets 276bhp ;)

Edit: I must read threads fully, great news :)

its a pool car, never even seen it in the flesh just out the window, ill blag the keys next week and take it for a spin, looks crap to me though :p

Was gutted to read the first few posts but glad its turned out ok in the end. What are you gonna spend the money you'd put aside for the rebuild on ? :)

oil cooler,
oil catch tank
injectors
fuel pump
remap

maybe a turbo too unsure this scare has made me wanna leave a few grand in the bank in case it really happens

Yea, basically, becuase Powerstation have such a big involvement with Subaru's and stuff, especially with the links to Lichfield imports, they installed a rolling road which gives Subarus really bad readings.

That or Sport owners everywhere are crutch-hunting :p

id be impressed if I get 200 at the wheels, 300+ at the FW and ill be a happy chappy

WTF are you on about? Have you even read the thread?

The car is fine, it was a loose intercooler hose. Yes he really has bought a nice looking P1.

I havent actually, its my dads, I made this excuse so I wouldnt have to admit the sad truth that I dont actually own a car :(
