The £10 ebay special code readers are useless for garages, they don't give anywhere near enough information and have zero programming options that we require. Useful only for getting generic error codes out of some makes and models but that's about it. There are many parts that we fit now that require going in via diagnostics to set-up, without equipment capable of that the whole job is impossible to do. That's why we charge money for testing, not because its a rip off but because we have to have £15,000 worth of equipment with £2000 a year software updates in order to actually do anything about that error code that has popped up.
