Hi all,

Ford Focus 1.6 LX (2000) - almost ran out of fuel this evening, pretty much lost all power and just managed to get to a fuel station. Since that's happened, the engine warning light has been on.

Now she's full, no issues or noises or power issues - but engine warning light is on.

Any ideas?

I've had this before when i ran out of fuel in my Yaris, the fault code was for 'low fuel pressure' and it threw the light for that, you'll just need to get it cleared. You can get someone to do that with a £10 OBD2 bluetooth adaptor from eBay and an phone/laptop.

Also usually good practice to change your fuel filter now as well.

Much appreciated, thank you. I'll have a look on the net to find a local OBD2 guy who can help, I hear Ford dealerships charge £80ish to plug it in! Fuel filter will be done as well, not by me though!

I'm afraid of pressing the wrong button and activating the engine self destruct, or limiting power to 5%.

Watch out for all the crud in the tank being dragged through the engine ;)

There is no button for engine self-destruct (or in fact to do anything other than read codes and clear them) - it's not possible to break anything with Torque!

Seriously though, if you don't want to do that, unless you want to find out what's going on, don't take it to a garage. if the problem's gone away it'll turn off by itself within a few hundred miles.
