Engineers vs blonde

Then please put me out of my misery and explain it? Im sure it should be the other way around, the blonde wants to know the height, the engineers get the measurement and she says thats the length. That could be funny in the classic blonde joke sense. This one seems to imply irish engineers are stupid, but surely thats a contradiction.

The engineers believe that by taking the pole down horizontal to the ground, what was once its "height" that they sought to measure has become its "length".

The humour is in the dramatic irony: we, the audience, can see the engineers' mistake but they cannot. While they laugh at what they think is the blonde's mistake based on their stereotyping, we laugh at their fulfilled stereotype.

I've never understood the nun and soap joke, so I thought I'd be kind.
