A relatively dull looking team but there are some bright sparks if they play well together. Bellingham, Foden, Maddison, Kane & Saka should be able to cause lots of problems for teams.

The defence doesn't inspire confidence though... and Southgate is a dreadful manager who couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.

I expect we'll do OK initially, Kane will score a couple of penalties, and we'll be out pretty early in the knockout rounds.

Hope I'm wrong but we shall see...

Don't think that's a bad list personally. It's all well and good saying there are better picks out there but getting a team together that 'gel' is probably more important then on pitch talent at a club level. Glad to see Gallagher getting picked as well as Wilson. Not expecting much but then I never do from us.

In agreement with most though, just doesn't feel the same this time around. Probs just a mixture of all the controversy as well as the time of year it's happening. Still, least Villa will be nice and rested for the tougher fixtures in Dec-Jan.

I'm not particularly 'unhyped' by this WC, leaving aside the human rights element there's probably a bit of a difference from normal in that the season is still ongoing, whereas normally in a summer tourney we've had no league football for several weeks prior, so usually people would be itching for their fix.

England have a mediocre squad this time around and with the climate out there I'm not expecting big things, but it's still the world cup

Uninspiring selection really but hardly surprising.

It must grate for players like Tomori to be starting at AC Milan, competing at the top of Serie A and see players like Maguire get selected ahead of you when he's struggling to earn appearances for his club.

Outside a couple of exceptions like Bellingham, it has the old feeling that you need to be at a 'big Premier League club' to get a look in for a tournament squad.

Pretty much cookie cutter but seriously cannot understand why Kalvin gets in. How many minutes has he played this season?

I guess Ivan Toney isn't getting a look in as Maguire is going to play that secondary No9 when needed.

He's been injured so it's not like he's not being picked on poor performances :p Although I doubt he will have played much regardless but class is permanent and all that jazz, only Rice plays his role, not sure there are many other good cdms who are English?

This world cup just hits different being this time of year, and not in a good way. Just feels off... not really hyped about it like normal.

I know what you mean. Normally get a telly in the garden, Hot summer nights, BBQ and few beers. Now it is going to be damp dark and horrible. Not to mention the majority of the matches are during working hours and day time. Some are kick off 10am. :( You also have a load of players out injured who would normally have had time to recover after a normal season.

I hope it goes knees up tbh as it should have never been given in the first place.

Like others have said, wrong time of the year and I just don't feel any excitement this time round..plus were it is is just a ****** tbh.

Still feelings may change once it starts I hope.
Ha, I'm utterly fracked off with the whole thing but I cannot, categorically, say that I won't at some point be sat there in my England top acting like a complete loon.

Equally I may just wash my hair when the matches are on. Of which I have none. Well unless we're counting ear and nose but I digress.
