Ok, the afternoon is slightly dragging, hence I've decided to name the 22 players I would take if I was Sven, to the World Cup.

Paul Robinson
David James
Nigel Martyn

Gary Neville
Jamie Carragher
Jonathon Woodgate [if fit]
John Terry
Rio Ferdinand
Ashley Cole [if fit]

David Beckham
Steven Gerrard
Frank Lampard
Joe Cole
Kevin Nolan
Gareth Barry
Michael Carrick
Kieron Dyer
Jermaine Jenas

Michael Owen [if fit]
Wayne Rooney
Jermaine Defoe
Darren Bent

Problem with choosing Woodgate and Cole is that even if they are fit to start with theres a 90% cance they'll get injured again through the tournament leaving you with only 4 defenders and no back ups. I think I'd have King and Young in there probably.

And as much as i hate to admit it i think i'd have Crouch in there aswell 2 games he's come on late recently he's made a big impact (Argentina and Uraguay) Plus SWP really has to be in there somewhere. Along with Parker

Pretty much what I'd take, except Barry wouldn't get a sniff, nor would Dyer. Jenas would go if there was no-one else available. Nolan I'd take if he'd had any game time but he hasn't and so should be written off for now IMO. I'd take Parker.

I'd take Crouch and drop Barry at least. Crouch scares defenders. It takes them a good 5 or 10 minutes to adapt to playing against him instead of a small, nippy player like Owen.

Don't think Woodgate has a chance even if he gets fit he has played so little over last couple of years

Defoe and Bent won't go , like it or not Crouch will get a place , prbably pick Defoe as 4th striker

are we assuming Sol Campbell is a non starter ?

I thought the squad was 23 players now

deffo take crouch, love him or hate him (he's grown on me) he causes problems, sets things going, links up well and can score goals. he is the 25 minute to go man for me with owen and roony staring. SWP has got to go in, hes just so much different than anything else we have. evcen if mouriho is a ****. he need to move in the summer.

I'd have Crouch in. Dyer if there ws 100% he wouldn't get injured, yes, but that's near impossible, so no, and Gareth Barry?! I've never been impressed with him at all over the past couple of years. The only thing going for him, is that he's left footed.

What about Aaron Lennon, obviously very young, but could frighten the oppositions defence easily.

Too many keepers IMO.

Dyer and Woodgate haven’t really played much so they are debatable.

Take out Martyn, Dyer and Barry.

Add Crouch, King, SWP and Parker.

Outside chances for Barton and Lennon.

Yup ill go with the L man on this one

Mine would be:
Paul Robinson
David James
Chris Kirkland (if he gets back in WBA team, if not then Robert Green)

Gary Neville
Jamie Carragher
Ledley King
John Terry
Rio Ferdinand
Ashley Cole
Wayne Bridge

David Beckham
Steven Gerrard
Frank Lampard
Joe Cole
Kevin Nolan
Stuart Downing
Michael Carrick
SWP
Scott Parker

Michael Owen
Wayne Rooney
Peter Crouch
Darren Bent or Jermain Defoe (Depends on how much Defoe plays towards the end of the season)

And its a 23 man squad like Rotty said

Would not even bother taking this useless waste of space.

He has lost his bottle and his confidence is low - just look at last weeks game for England.

For me it has to be King and Terry at the back as first choice... then Woodgate and Campbell as cover.

where is carragher in that one? why do people continue to not see how good he is. carragher and terry would be the only choice if it wa up to me. he is immense! Rio has always been like that and it hasnt stopped him being a good defender, and campbell has lost the plot!

the problem is that as bad as Ferdinand is getting it is probably too late to be making huge changes like CB pairings

Robinson
Martyn (assuming he comes out of retirement)

A.Cole
Carragher
Ferdinand
Terry
Campbell
King
G.Neville
Young

J.Cole
Downing
Gerrard
Lampard
Carrick
Parker
Beckham
S.Wright-Phillips
Nolan

Owen
Rooney
Crouch
Defoe

Can't argue with that, although out of personal preference i would like SWP to start instead of Beckham, but it won't happen
