So what do we all think?
I am bitterly disappointed in Tuchel. He was appointed exactly to solve the sort of situation we found ourselves in, and he blew it. He didn't have the answers and his response was to throw on more and more defenders which just killed us. Of course the players have to shoulder some of the blame too, but they would have looked to the manager and he froze.
Ultimately, we've not really been any better than under Southgate (including in qualification and friendlies), so what exactly is the point of him? Watching Argentina against Spain made it even worse, they are a bang average side who we could have faced up and beaten. What's all this stuff about "if we lose, we lose our way" - so his way is to park the bus and play 6 defenders...? He just seems like a fraud.
I can't read much into the France game as it's a totally different situation when the pressure is all but removed. I'd have more sympathy if he was a less experienced manager, but that's not the case. I know it's still technically our best result since 1966, but the manner of it was awful.
I suppose in an ideal world too, I'd also rather the manager was English - and I'd apply that logic to all teams really, except perhaps the really small nations.
