English fans stabbed in Rome

just to make things a bit better, was just speaking to someone on irc in the #middlesbrough channel @ quakenet, he said he knows one of the blokes who has been stabbed, and said that quite a number of the lads mates, and random blokes are getting flights to rome today, by the sounds of it for trouble, see what happens in the news if anymore begins to happen

It's not as bad as it used to be, but there will always be a need to watch your back whilst away in Europe.

I hope there's no more trouble and those injured make a speedy and full recovery.

Didnt a boro fan get stabbed in Holland earlier this season?

Becoming a bit of a habit this or is it merely coincidence?

The Boro fan stabbed in Holland was stabbed because he refused to buy some drugs from a dealer after being approached by the drug dealer. Nothing to do with football at all.

And as for the attack in Rome. All the Boro fans were simply sat having a drink. Not causing any bother. When the Roma fans attacked. A couple of Boro fans protected them selfs and got stabbed. One of those is someone who is well known to not back down although he wasn't looking for bother at the time.

The fact a lot of those attacked were youngsters and women says a lot about the Roma fans who did this.

The thing is, England always gets the bad reputation for the violence, despite it being our fans that are killed.
We are judged unfairly, if we killed fans the punishment would be far more severe.

We've already had teams banned from Europe in the past.

Euro '96 went without a blip and it was the best one yet.

Throw the ******* out of europe. A premeditated attack? No excuses, out.

I totally agree but we both know it won't happen. If that had happened on English soil carried out by fans of an English team there would be hell to pay. As it stands I doubt much will.

I can't believe we have such a bad reputation when all the worst stuff seems to be coming from the fascist italian supporters, racist spanish supporters and the outright mental turkish ones.

*Disclaimer* I'm not tarring all Spanish\Italian\Turkish football fans, but a minority are as I described and they do manage to get themselves in the news every year.

a couple of my mates went over to roma for the liverpool game a couple of years ago. They said the italian fans are crazy, riding on mopheads and stabbing people in the backside etc etc

They should be banned, if that happened at anfield or any other ground in england we'd be banned from europe, banned from the world cup, banned from anything and everything!

haha the translation from babbelfish is fantastic

Crashs, also to blows of bottles and knives, between Italians and British tifosi of the Middlesbrough, the square who this evening will face the Rome in the game of return of Uefa Goblet, have taken place in public square Field dè Flowers, in the center of the Understood one them. Thirteen wounded English and two policemen.

As a Boro fan who has travelled to UEFA cup matches this season and last, I have never seen any trouble caused by Boro fans. I was at the AZ match (actually about 20 miles out of Amsterdam) and have never seen such good humour and conduct towards opposition fans as I've seen at that match.

As was said earlier in the thread, the fan who was stabbed had travelled to Amsterdam after the match and was stabbed by a drug dealer (nothing to do with football at all).

Apparantly last night a gang of 30 Roma fans threw flares into 2 bars that were full of Boro fans (including family groups). As the fans ran out, the gang set upon them, stabbing a few including a father who was protecting his 11 year old son. I'm sure that a couple of Boro fans may have retaliated, but this sounds like a totally unproked attack.

What annoys me most is that although there was no trouble at the Riverside at the home leg, if there was, we would be most likely kicked out of this competion now because of the reputation of English fans.

Hopefully we can hold out tonight and get through to the next round :)

I think that the English still have the reputation as thugs and continentals play on that reputation. To be fair a number of English clubs have been great for fan behaviour. it's a shame that the reputation of England as a whole lets them down.

A comparison could be Ranger's recent incident with a "fan" smashing the Villareal team bus window" It was proved to be false becuase the bottle of Wine wasn't empty. :p

In reference to the stabbing in amsterdam... I know daughter of the stabbed individual (Her dad was stabbed but is now OK, her godfather was killed). They were stabbed for not wanting to purchase drugs off some crazy ******...

Also, the violence in Rome today sickens me... It wasn't thugs that they set upon, it was ******* families!
Also, I heard from a friend over there that a boro fan saw a guy with a head injury and so put his shirt over the wound... The policed then came and kicked **** out of him

Man, nothing aggitates me more that little ******* cowards that do that ****. Stick em in a cage with some real meat heads and see how they do, not against some ******* family men... Jesus christ...

Ashx

Edit: But still, Boro win on away goals!!!!!
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
