Im looking at registering with Imeche for EngTech, is this the best institution to sign up with or has anyone had experience with the other organisations i.e. Engineering council

Also, I am on the hunt for an engineer that would be willing to sponsor me (not financially). If you are willing then please pop me a email

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

James.

Hi James,

By registering with the IMechE and getting professionally registered (EngTech, IEng, CEng), you automatically become professionally registered with the Engineering Council. In essence, which organisation you choose to do it with, does not really matter for the qualification itself, as the UK-SPEC is set by the Engineering Council and institutions have applications that comply to it.

Also, if you became EngTech with the IMechE, and then a few years later you decided you wanted to join the Royal Aeronautical Society, you can register as an EngTech with them, again, it's the Eng Council you have the qualification with, not with the institutions.

I have just gotten my IEng with the IMechE, mainly because they are quite big and I'm a mechanical engineer by degree. Unfortunately I have already been assigned to sponsor 2 people at my company so can't help with that.

The IMechE do free events for people wanting to get their professional membership. It's worth popping in one of those and talking to the regional manager. If you can't find a sponsor he can assign one to you.
