OK bit of rambling from me maybe

I am not getting a new graphic card until there is one which can hit at least 60fps+ in Crysis 1600x1200 with 16x anisotropic filtering and high quality settings.

When do you think this will happen.

Probably r700 or g100 whenever they hit. Doubt they'l be able to handle very high really well but high mode should get a lot more playable.

Mid 2009. Crysis is ahead of its time, look at Oblivion. Took roughly the same time to be playable on very high e.g. when the 8800 were released.

how can we answer that question.. we don't know the future.. also we don't know how well the next cards will turn out yet...

See you in about 2011 then. :p

I imagine the 9xxx series won't be able to achieve that, so, mid 2009 at the earliest... prob later than that tho.

No, still 2006 8800's those. :)

I can't see the R700 being able to do 60+ either in that heap, not if you can pair to 8800 ultra's together, clock the nads of em, and still drop to 20's, jesus that R700 is gona have to be one absurdly fast card. :D

I know what you mean. My 8800gt is plenty good enough for me in all the games i play @1680x1050 (apart from crysis). I usually use max settings but with 2xAA or with older games i'll use more AA. I play crysis on 'high' with 0xAA @1680x1050. On the benchmark i get 29fps with these settings. The thought of spending ~£300 on a new card and getting, say, 40fps with 2xAA still on 'high' just doesn't appeal to me. I think its going to take either some more ultra high end games or a bargain of a card to be released to make me upgrade at the moment.

The sad part is I only think crysis is 'ok'

Something else to consider is, every new graphics card seems to get bigger and bigger, i remember when a radeon x800 pro was considered a big card and now look at it, it's tiny in comparison to ultras and 3870x2's. In 18 months time you might struggle to fit top end cards in standard cases.

I remember taking out my huge 4600ti and replacing it with a tiny 6600gt. I couldn't believe how much better it was. Infact, the 6600gt is probably the card i have been most impressed with (at the time)

Well if the G100 / R700 can't play Crysis on full with all the eye candy enabled then I think it'll be an absolute disgrace. Won't be much motivation to upgrade. I think both GPU companies have got a good opportunity to label their new GPU as a Crysis killer. Just think how many they would sell if that was the case. Mid February the 9800X2 is being released and the G100 G9800GTX is supposed to be released March/April time. Really hope so...

I'm planning to water cool my system so there's no point in my buying an ultra and water block then to mess around changing it in a few months time.

They have to go top to bottom soon :p

Agreed if someone could do it then they sell loads but it could last you years aswell :D as other games catch up to crysis at full max.

I fail to see how the graphics card market is to blame for this 'disgrace', crytek simply released a hugely advanced engine, well ahead of its time (and i bet didn't optimize it as much as they could). There are plenty of other games out there that look fantastic and run smooth as silk on the 8800 series cards (read: Bioshock, UT3, Stalker, COD4, World in Conflict, The Witcher), Crysis is simply the odd one out.

I mislayed my crystal ball, or I would have told you.

I don't think that the 9 series is expected to be able to get 60 fps at top settings, not the early versions at least.

I love the way everyone blames the gfx cards for Crapsis's abysmal performance, "I dont care that i'll be able to run every game out at 2560x1900 with 32xAA/32xAF everything maxed at over 20,000fps, it can't run this single game at 60, still drops to the 20's, so im not buying this new utter crap card", pmsl its only one sodding game everyone, stop basing the purchase of a gfx card just on 1x single game, you really shouldn't have PC's. :D

I couldn't give 2 ***** how this pile of crap runs, im playing every other game out there bloody great.

35+ frames is a very respectable frame rate and would be hard to differ from 60 frames. the best thing to do would to just wait for the new Nvidia card see how it fairs out against current cards.

I wouldnt hold your line as it will be a few years untill Crysis will get 60 frames in 1600x1200 with 16xQ filtering. i would just wait for the next best card to come out and get into playing good games.

what card do you have at the moment?

Yeah but half of crysis' appeal is the graphics. Other games dont matter if all you want to play is crysis.
