Enough is enough

I fail to see how the graphics card market is to blame for this 'disgrace', crytek simply released a hugely advanced engine, well ahead of its time (and i bet didn't optimize it as much as they could). There are plenty of other games out there that look fantastic and run smooth as silk on the 8800 series cards (read: Bioshock, UT3, Stalker, COD4, World in Conflict, The Witcher), Crysis is simply the odd one out.

I wonder if maybe Crysis coding is not up to scratch?

The game is far ahead of its time and it will take about 2 years before you can actually play the game on full detail. For me i don't see what all the obsession is about crysis, sure it has the best graphics that has been seen so far, but the fact is you can't play it maxed out on current hardware, theres no point in complaining and asking when. It will happen when it happens.

So what do we do when EA for examples decided to release something to match Crysis eye candy? Maybe Crysis coding can be blamed. I remember when Far Cry came out. I couldn't get any decent performance on my 6800GT. I tried the game again recently on the same hardware and the game was playing a lot better on my PC with high settings etc.

I'm almost 100% sure that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way that Crysis is coded. They pretty much said from day 1 that it would be 1.5-2 years after launch before a card is able to run Crysis 'maxed' out.

Why does everyone assume that because their cards can't run Crysis to their satisfaction that there must be something wrong with the way it is coded? Seriously the Crysis team have been responsible for two of the most advanced graphics engines to grace the PC and people suggest they are unable to code! Absolute madness!

Well, considering Oblivion, when run with a few gigs of texture packs at a res of 1920x1200 with 16xAA and 16xAF can still take the wind out of an SLI'd 8800gtx system, I'd imagine we'll be waiting quite a while for a single card to handle Crysis "maxed out" - and I'm assuming this means an average of at least 30FPS at "very high" and with the aforementioned settings.

I'm with those who suspect the coding. The 1.1 patch showed improvements in performance, which surely confirms that 1.0 had significant flaws, and though I also suspect video card drivers are partially to blame, I believe there is far more that can and will be done.

One thing I've never understood is why the FPS counter appears so woefully inaccurate, especially in SLI.

I'll often be looking at numbers of anywhere between 20-40FPS, yet visually it's more like 5-10FPS, at best!

I think there is a card already out that will run Crysis at that speed and quality but of course they (nvidia / ATI) want to go through the process of making as much money possible, so they do it through stages as they are now r600, r700 blah blah :D
