Enter Shikari

How can a band who've had one EP and, have just released their first album and haven't changed their sound be called "sell outs"?

Didn't you know? Any band thats successful are sell outs.

All that said, they're still a shockingly bad band.

Each to his own, most people either love or hate screamo. It's just a new type of rave, well, nu rave!

Please, please, PLEASE don't ever say Enter Shikari are screamo. Screamo is about as far away from Enter Shikari as Enter Shikari are from hip hop.

They are a pretty crap band, aye. No denying that. But calling them "sell outs" is bloody ridiculous.

I really can't argue with this post.

Because they are jumping on this whole "emo kids" scene started by Funeral for a Friend... look how many of these *****y bands have sprung up since then?? All trying to cash in on this new moronic emo-scene-kid market. That is exactly what Enter Shikari were doing and what makes them even worse...

Have you seen them? They are 4 chavs from Oxfordshire ffs (or wherever)... posh boarding school boys who barely know how to play instruments but know how to make money...

I really don't like Enter Shikari. Seriously. But I would disagree that they're just jumping on a bandwagon here. They've worked so much harder than most bands do. Much harder than FFAF or Lostprophets ever did. They've been constantly on tour since their first EP and put in a lot of hard work to get where they are just now. Their album was entirely self produced and self released.

So, if anything, they've made the scene catch on to them just by being everywhere and constantly playing, building up a fan base, and just getting in peoples faces and refusing to go away.

This band did not just come from no where and suddenly become huge. It's taken them the best part of 3 years to build up the momentum to get to where they are just now. Which is more than can be said for bands like FFAF and LPs who went from nothing to massive in the space of 6 months.

I must admit that I know nothing of this band; I'm getting old and therefore out of touch. However, any band with tracks named "Mothership", "Sorry, You're Not a Winner" and "No Sssweat" deserve a swift kick in the eye, in my honest opinion.

quoted for truth... suffice to say mate you don't need to have heard them to form a correct opinion of the band..

Not into them so much now but loved them at one point, saw them live in bath, was a great night.

And how anyone can call them sellouts is beyond me, they turned down their first major deal because they weren't given total control of it and wanted it their way or no way.

They actually own their own label, so therefore it's actually impossible for them to sellout theoretically.

I'm seeing them in August, i think they're a lot better than most of the garbage that's being on the scene recently although for a band that owns their own label, i can't help but think that they could do a lot more

It's the complete lack of musicianship that bugs me... the guitarist is utterly atrocious - if you have that rockworld/redemption channel they are sometimes live on there and they are terrible lol...

The guitarist sucks and (being a guitarist myself) that is what annoys me... along with the terrible vocals and synths too. Just all round no talent bandwagon jumpers selling out for easy money...

Be gond foul beasts....

(couldn't let this one slip)

Sorry, you're completely incorrect if you consider Enter Shikari to lack musicianship. Not every band in the world has the musicianship of Spastic Ink or Spiral Architect.

The guitarist has a fantastic distortion tone far better than most metal guitarist which is very impressive considering how young the band is, it took Meshuggah 6 years+ to refine their tone to the point of crunchy djent excellence. He also has written some very good riff which are much better than similar bands.

The synths though very typical fit in very well with the mix and definately do add an extra dimension to their music (much more than Jordan Rudess has done for Dream Theater, another band considered to have amazing musicianship unless there are people who exist that actually enjoy his 7 minute long piano concertos)

The actual music itself is very technical, a lot of their songs have complex rhythmic passages and often incorporate time signature changes (similar bands simply don't do this apart from Exit Ten).

The only thing i'll agree with is the singer isn't brilliant but he sounds a lot better than how he used to.

Hmm I suppose jonny sniper is a fun song, but other than that, the average competent musician could pull something of equal quality out of their a**, believe me, non musician peoplez

Correct. The music is emo (i.e. song titled "Sorry you're not a winner"), they speak like posh english knobs and they dress like chavs... triple attack.

It's not even about their popularity because as far as I can tell they aren't that huge?? It's just that they suck something awful

I will hereby provide evidence to back this up including the WORST GUITAR TONE I HAVE EVER HEARD coupled with the worst guitar riff I have ever heard.

The riff is this the worst riff I have ever heard (occurs at around 1:30 area):

Code:
e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|---7---7---7----7p0-------------7---7---7---7--9--10------|
D|---------------------7p0-5p0------------------------------|
A|---8---8---8--------------------8---8---8---8--10--12-----|
E|----------------------------------------------------------|

and you're telling me that this guitar tone is "fantastic" and one of the best in metal?

Ear test for Phalanx.

All round garbage I'm afraid.
