Enterprise D virtual Tour (Unreal engine)

Looks good. Will give it a go once I get my Oculus Rift :)

That said, if they could make it even better, I think people would be willing to pay for it. If they could make it a little bit interactive, more accurate for example and better graphics I would pay to use it with a VR headset.

Very cool. As a semi closeted Next Generation partial Trekkie I really enjoyed that.

As a gamer since day one, I used to look at the pre rendered graphics and special effects of the external shots/ fly bys of the enterprise (by Industrial Light and Magic) in the show and say "in 10 years time that's what computer games will look like". Terrifyingly that was about 25 years ago, and we are still not there, even with Unreal Engine 4. Look at the external ship graphics at the end of that video. No where near.

I can't help but feel disappointed. Graphics in games still haven't made the real leap I always thought they would have done by now.

I think the scale and detail the level design is more impressive than the UE4 engine here. Mainly I think the aesthetic in use there doesn't really offer up much, the corridor sequences were probably where you could really see the level of detail on offer - but not sure it's not something that couldn't have been done to a similar standard on an older engine.

Not that I'm knocking the UE4 engine or anything, I'm just not sure that shows it off very well.

That being said, I'd love to see something based on that released to have a play with.

It is after all, a one guy fan-made operation that may be shut down any second by the ip holder - so i think expectations of total polish are a bit high.

Good point. I don't know a lot about the UE4 engine yet. Do we think it might be capable of producing real time graphics as good as the ILM pre renders of a 25 year old TV series ?

To be a total geek its not very accurate. For instance they have Ten Forward on Deck 01 but its called Ten Forward as its on Deck 10 Section 1. If you follow the vid out of Ten Forward around 8:17 you go up some stairs to the next level (stairs on the Enterprise?) and it quite clearly says DECK 02 on the wall meaning they have Ten Forward on Deck 1.

Rubbish.

That was Two Forward not Ten forward.

The only thing rubbish here is your eye sight by the looks of it; and expectations even. This as I understand it is done mainly by a single person and is just a demo, not the finished thing. Even if he did make a mistake, give him a break... Jeez
